US Midterms: Markets swing hard to the Democrats

Following a series of terrible polls for Donald Trump and the Republicans since Labor Day, Democrats are surging across betting markets.

The Democrats are ever stronger favourites to regain control of the House of Representatives. The best odds among betting apps lies with 1/7, with most firms now offering 1/10 or shorter. The Republicans are at around 6/1.

Whilst there is little dispute about which party is on course to win the House – and this is no surprise given historic trends leaning towards the party in opposition to the president – there is regarding the size of the Democrat victory among polling models. 

This is largely due to districts being rated as ‘toss-ups’, which models will call closer to election day.
